Multiple Exposure: Research Multiple Exposure Imagery

Provided is a body of multiple exposure imagery that has been manipulated by the practitioners listed on the unit brief. Use these images within your sketchbook to create a study looking at the various ways in which this technique can be used within fine art practice and commercial graphic design.

You need to discuss what has been done to create these images and elaborate on the techniques used. Talk about the aesthetic of them, their purpose, depth and how they make you feel.

Introduction

The freedom to experiment with imagery, push boundaries and investigate possibilities is the joy of art, visual communication, design and multi-medias. As graphic designers you are continuously seeking a fresh, contemporary look and feel to your work.

Most contemporary graphic design features a multi-layering of traditional and modern media to create high end and modern imagery. By extending your knowledge in a wide variety of medias you will gain knowledge on how to apply and utilise your experiments to design problems you are set in the future. The photographic image can play a large part in this process.

Multiple Exposure is a photographic process that enables a number of images to be exposed over each other on the same picture plain. You are able to take one image, move on to the next choice of subject and take that image over the previous shot. This can be done a number of times to create layered and abstracted images which can then be used in a variety of ways.

This is the starting point of your project.

The theme of your images will be architectural form, street and details. These will need to be immaculately composed and considered. You will need to consider what you are shooting and overlaying each time you make an image. This will determine the success of your images. We shall create a number of experiments to refine your technique and subject material at the start of the project sessions to ensure you get positive results for your finished work.
